Basil Smash Cocktail

This cocktail is amazingly fragrant: sweet basil notes combined beautifully with gin and lemon to create a super-summery tipple for all sorts of occasions, particularly garden parties and picnics. If you like fresh basil, you will adore this!

Ingredients for 4-6 cocktails

60 ml / 2 fl oz Gin
60ml / 2 fl oz sugar syrup - sugar dissolved in equal measure of boiling water, reduced a little.
30ml / 1 fl oz fresh lemon juice - probably 2 good size lemons.
small handful of fragrant fresh basil leaves and edible flowers from Greens of Devon Cocktail Selection Box


basil gin cocktailcrush and stir the basil in the gin, and leave to steep for 10 minutes. squeeze the juice from your lemons and chill your cocktail glasses with ice. after gin and basil have swapped numbers, pour them, the sugar syrup and lemon juice into a shaker half-full of ice. shake well and strain the mix into the chilled glasses.


float basil flowers and small leaves on top and garnish the glass with anything else that takes your fancy! we like snapdragon flowers on the rim, and a blousy bloom like mallow or dianthus to maximise the floral fantasy
